Lawrence Levi is a senior staff editor at The New York Times. His essays and articles have appeared in many publications, including the Times and its Book Review, the Los Angeles Times, and the New York Observer.

In the aughts he cowrote The Film Snob’s Dictionary (Broadway Books), a Los Angeles Times best seller.

He is also a photographer. His work has been shown at the International Center of Photography in New York and at galleries in New York and Portland, Oregon.

Lawrence’s artist’s book Necrology, a collection of found obituary portraits, was published in 2021. Maybe, his first book of photographs, was released in June 2024.

He lives in Brooklyn.
